This is primarily a book for completists and nostalgia buffs. If anything, it's arguably more authentic than the garish re-colourings of vintage material typically presented in other hardcover collections. There are some slight moire artefacts visible (from scanning printed material) but it's very slight and doesn't detract. The reproduction, whilst not sourced from digital re-colourings is none-the-less for it.
#Captain britain volume 1 birth of a legend plus#
If you consider CB a legend, then the sub-head "Birth of a Legend" is indeed correct, for collected here are all 39 outings plus a couple of US stories in chronological order.

So it's ironic that a reviewer who still refers to American's as "yanks" might take exception to this. So much of British culture was (and is) either influenced by, or just plainly absorbed directly from the US. Yes, there are some "core blimey mate, strike a light" moments but that's to be expected. It's an American Publishing company making inroads into the buoyant British market in the 70s, (A VERY stale UK) so it's hardly surprising it's not British to its core - whatever that is. you have to remember this is *of its time*. Whilst it's all very well bleating on about how great Moore is, and that anything before him is useless etc. This is, for it's time, solid three-star material presented as a 4 star package. I felt compelled to right the mean-spritied single star review from a UK contributor.
